The Culling Exams

In a far dystopian future, overpopulation is a genuine problem. There are more mouths to feed than there is a source of food and water. To control the world population, the world government came up with a devilish but effective solution. Every child, when reached the age of 17, must prepare and take The Culling Exam. The Exam ensures that those who are worthy enough to pass it become a highly productive part of the society to ensure humanity's survival. Those who fail the exam must face their demise as they are not fit to be a part of this brutal society.

The Culling Exams is a 3D escape room puzzle game in which the player must solve the puzzle and move various objects to find the most optimal path to the exit.

Action-Adventure Puzzle

Levels

The levels in the game are designed to replicate a testing facility in the future with industrial looking assets and monotone textures. The lighting used also simulates the lighting in a lab or an office building with no windows for outside natural light to come in.

The minimalistic empty room is intentional to compliment the dark them of the game.

Digital layouts and prototyping

A 2D layout of the levels was created using simple tools like Google Draw, Adobe Photoshop to ensure each level is unique and different from the previous one.

A physical prototype was created for each level from the digital layouts to ensure each level is beatable and not too overwhelming for the player. Physical prototypes were also necessary to monitor how different players will react and beat each level differently.
